As I have stated in my previous post, I’m currently building my electronic portofolio. As such : I’m redesigning and building new blocks in this blog to turn it into my main homepage, my portofolio. So you will find slowly more tidbits of my past career, passions, past and future professional projects. It is clearly more than a resume, it is a way of taking charge of my online identity. I’m hoping to make it consistent and interesting to read for all.

Your comments and feedback are welcome as this is an academic exercise and a continuous intellectual reflection on web technologies, privacy and online reputation.


Online reputation : Is it just about Google?

Well, it’s good to be back.
I haven’t had time to post anything new (or interesting) these last few months, last-year students are completely taken over by reading, thesis, scheduling, planning… for the end finally of a Bsc in Information Science (in french) after almost three years!

Today was a very interesting day ; we had a joint class (with the IT specialists) about how to manage your online reputation and we were assigned a case study where we compare two successful businesses, whom I will not mention here, and how they seem to manage their online reputation. Interesting because we use tools like Google, Facebook, Twitter and other collaborative/sharing platform… but one can ask the question : do we have the innate reflex of doing that for ourselves? Do we know what Google is saying about us? In fact, do we know what other sites may say about us?

As a formal exercise, we students in third-year Information Science and third-year Information Technology are asked to “take back control” of our online reputation, our digital footprint by building a E-Portofolio. We learn to valorize our skills, maximize our output of information, prevent unwanted leaks before they happen… In simple words : we make sure that what is online about us IS about us and we prove it. How? By linking works, past projects, weblinks, images that will tell visitors who we claim to be.

So as a question to the readers who may follow me (even though I’ve been quite absent) or my new visitors  : do you know what your online identity is? If yes, what steps or tools do you use to monitor it?
